Chrome activates glucose tolerance factor (GTF), which in turn significantly enhances the binding of glucose to its receptors, thereby stimulating glucose uptake by tissues. Insulin works by interacting with insulin receptors on the cell surface. Therefore, chromium can not only increase the amount of insulin on the cell surface, increase the rate of glucose conversion to acetyl-coA, but also activate the binding between insulin and membrane receptors.
